Climate

Spring (March to May) brings mild temperatures and cherry blossoms, making it a popular time for tourists. Summers (June to August) are generally hot and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C (86°F) and occasional typhoons affecting coastal areas. The northern regions experience milder summers.

Autumn (September to November) is characterized by mild and pleasant weather, with vibrant foliage attracting visitors. Winters (December to February) vary across the country. Northern regions, such as Hokkaido, experience cold temperatures and heavy snowfall, while central and southern areas have milder winters. Tokyo and other major cities usually see temperatures around 5-10°C (41-50°F).

The mountainous terrain contributes to regional variations in climate. Japan’s western side, facing the Sea of Japan, receives heavy snowfall, making it ideal for winter sports. In contrast, the eastern side, including Tokyo and the Pacific coast, experiences milder winters due to the influence of warm ocean currents.
