Filming in Denmark
Denmark is a film-friendly country offering varied locations within a compact geography. Contemporary architecture, historic brick buildings and colourful waterfronts sit alongside working harbours and residential neighbourhoods. Copenhagen’s intimate streets, cafés and relaxed everyday life capture the Danish sense of “hygge”. Carefully chosen locations around the capital can allow city streets, coastlines and forests to be filmed within a single shooting day.
Beyond Copenhagen, Denmark offers small towns, rolling countryside, lakes, beaches, dunes and distinctive island settings. From clean Scandinavian design to textured historic environments and open coastal landscapes, the country provides a broad range of visual expressions.
Experienced crews, established equipment suppliers, reliable transport infrastructure and widely spoken English support international productions. Short travelling distances help simplify logistics and make efficient use of shooting days.
Casting options include a diverse pool of supporting artists across ethnic backgrounds, ages and looks. Principal cast can be sourced locally or internationally to suit the brief.
Copenhagen can also serve as a production hub for the Faroe Islands. Their steep sea cliffs, green mountains, waterfalls and remote villages offer a dramatically different landscape, extending the possibilities for productions looking for distinctive North Atlantic scenery.
Climate
Denmark has a temperate climate with distinct seasons. Summer brings long daylight hours and extended evenings, offering flexibility for exterior shoots. The distinctive coastal light, famously captured by the Skagen painters, adds to the country’s visual appeal.
Spring and autumn bring changing colours and variable weather. Winter offers shorter days and a subdued Nordic atmosphere, although snow cannot be relied upon. Coastal weather can change quickly, so exterior schedules benefit from contingency planning. In the Faroe Islands, conditions are more changeable, with wind, rain and fog requiring additional flexibility when planning outdoor shoots.

Our partner in Denmark takes a practical approach to reducing the environmental impact of production. Measures include digital production documents, electric or hybrid vehicles where feasible, rental and reuse of costumes and props, waste sorting and reduced single-use materials. Vegetarian catering is encouraged, with dietary requirements accommodated.
Sustainability is considered during preparation, with measures agreed around the needs and logistics of each project. Crew and suppliers are encouraged to suggest improvements throughout the production.
Incentive Scheme
Denmark offers a production incentive providing a 25% rebate on eligible production expenditure incurred in the country. The scheme covers qualifying feature films, fiction series, documentaries and animation, subject to format-specific requirements, minimum budgets and local expenditure thresholds. Funding is subject to application and approval. Commercial productions are not eligible.
