An otherworldly landscape of black sands, lava fields, waterfalls and the Aurora Borealis makes filming in Iceland an experience like no other.
Filming in Iceland
In Iceland you will find filming locations like no other! The sci-fi looking landscape in Iceland has an incredible nature and stunning views.
Black sand, glaciers, otherworldly lava fields, dreamy waterfalls and snowy mountains, lakes, lagoons, tundra, moors patched with blue ponds, and northern lights are scenes of incredible beauty. Iceland can portray a post-apocalyptic world and has doubled up for other countries, including Japan, Norway, Greenland, Russia, Canada, USA and even Italy.
Getting a filming permit in Iceland is usually easy and in many cases not required. No permits are needed for smaller crews in public areas. When closing roads, filming on private property a permit will be required. Our Partner can help out with applications and any necessary paperworks, should this be needed.
Iceland has a mild climate all year round. The temperature drops in southern Iceland in winter to a minimum of -10°C and in northern Iceland to around -15°C. During summer the temperature can rise up to 23°C in the south and 24.5°C in the north. Only as much as a quarter of Iceland’s surface is covered by vegetation. The many volcanic eruptions, the sea breeze and the grazing sheep are one of the reasons why Iceland’s nature is barren and actually treeless.

I had a great time working with [them]. They were really efficient and dealt with our various problems before I had even thought of them. A good, solid local producer.
