Croatia

Croatia is a very production friendly country that often double’s up for other Mediterranean countries offering a diverse range of filming locations rich in history.

Filming in Croatia

Croatia has emerged as a popular destination for filmmakers in recent years, thanks to its stunning natural beauty, diverse landscapes, and well-preserved historic sites. The country offers a plethora of unique filming locations, making it an ideal choice for various genres and settings.

One of the most famous filming locations in Croatia is Dubrovnik, known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic.” Its ancient city walls, picturesque streets, and well-preserved medieval architecture have made it a sought-after backdrop for productions like the popular TV series “Game of Thrones.” The city’s historic charm and coastal scenery provide a captivating setting for period dramas, fantasy epics, or even contemporary stories.

The country’s diverse geography offers a range of breathtaking locations. From the enchanting Plitvice Lakes National Park with its cascading waterfalls and lush greenery to the rugged mountains of Dalmatia, Croatia provides a variety of natural landscapes for filmmakers to explore. The iconic Krka National Park, with its magnificent waterfalls and crystal-clear pools, has also attracted several productions.

Croatia’s Adriatic coastline is another major draw for filmmakers. With its pristine beaches, secluded coves, and crystal-clear waters, it provides a stunning backdrop for romance, adventure, and water-themed productions. The coastal cities of Split and Zadar offer a mix of ancient Roman ruins and vibrant modern life, making them versatile filming locations.

Furthermore, Croatia offers a supportive and well-developed film industry. Local production companies and experienced crews provide high-quality services to international productions. The country also offers attractive financial incentives, including a cash rebate program, which encourages filmmakers to choose Croatia as their filming destination.

Climate

There are two climate zones; a continental climate, also a mountainous climate, prevails in the interior, whereas a pleasant Mediterranean climate prevails along the Adriatic coast, with an overwhelming number of sunny days and a sea temperature that does not fall under 20°C. This
pleasant climate favours the Adriatic coast. The average temperature:
January 0 to 2°C, August 19 to 23°C; average temperature at
the seaside: January 6 to 11°C, August 21 to 27 °C; the sea
temperature is about 12°C in the winter, and 25°C in the
summer

SHOOTING WITH IVAN AND HIS TEAM ON THE ISLAND OF HVAR WAS A GENUINE PLEASURE. NOT ONLY WERE THE CREW EXTREMELY FRIENDLY, EXPERIENCED AND PROFESSIONAL BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY HE ARRANGED FOR US TO JUMP INTO A SPEEDBOAT AND BE SPIRITED AWAY TO A TINY ISLAND RESTAURANT. CAN’T WAIT TO GO BACK – IN FACT I AM THIS VERY MONTH!
